Overall, the story revolves around an attached instructor or a suicidal former idol. To be honest, it was a difficult decision. While Shibasawa’s acts may be motivated by selfishness and love for Reiji, we know that if a relationship develops between Reiji and herself, she will ensure that he has no motive to commit suicide.
There’s no reason to abandon life and spend what’s left at the bottom of the abyss. Although the teacher is mad, she is the best choice for Reiji. Nagi is number one, but I believe she sparked Reiji’s desire to kill himself. At least the instructor is trying to help him (even if she is insane).
Part of me believes Reiji is just acting this way because he is a people-pleaser. He keeps his head down and focuses on making sure everyone else is happy. Meanwhile, he never accomplishes anything beneficial to himself.
I believe he recognizes Shibasawa’s true sentiments, if only for a little period; he wants to return them for her phony, but knowing he doesn’t feel that way about her. But, at the same time, who knows?
