A brief recap of chapter 138
Denji and his date were still at odds at the start of Chainsaw Man chapter 138. She charged at him as one of the attackers on the floor brandished a gun in his direction. She then swung her bat at his face, breaking his model gun and causing him to drop it. Then Hirofumi Yoshida came back out and revealed the girl’s identity as Fumiko Mifune of Tokyo’s Special Division 7 for Public Safety.
They clarified that she was Denji’s bodyguard and never intended to harm him. She even admitted her feelings for him openly. The story then shifted to Asa Mitaka, who was practically unresponsive as she watched a TV show about herself. War Devil Yoru and she had a frank conversation about their divergent views on celebrity. Yoru welcomed the attention, while Asa felt invaded.
Sword Man
The camera then panned back to Denji just as Asa watched the broadcast with a sly grin on his face. The persona told Denji how frustrating it was to see Asa compared to Chainsaw Man. Then he admitted to everyone that he knew Denji was really Chainsaw Man.
At the end of the chapter, we learn that the mysterious man is actually Sword Man, a Hybrid in Makima’s Special Division 5 team.
